14miles easy

Today I ran an out and back route 7miles out on a country road just outside of town. I ran alone, I just wanted it that way. I wanted to reflect on my race and figure out what I need to do to run like I want to run.
The run was great, I hit 6:53-7:04 for every mile until the last three where I ran 6:49, 6:49, 6:37. It was easy for the most part too, especially easy for running a race 13 hours before. So that adds on the fustration slightly haha.

  1. Balance is the key to living a happy and successful life. Just as you can't get too excited when you have a good race/workout, you can't get down when you have a subpar race/workout. One race, especially the first one, doesn't make or break the season.

In 2004, prior to the olympics, El Guerrouj ran a series of subpar races. One a 1500m race in Rome he ran 3:32 for 1500m (slow by his standards) and finished 8th in the race. A little over a month later he won the 1500m and 5000m at the Olympic Games. Keep in mind that it doesn't matter where you start, but where you finish that counts. Trust in yourself and trust in the training you've done (and will do the next month). Take everything one day at a time and focus on getting the most out of every day you run. Stop worrying about this.
